California Sex Offender Management Board Passes Out of Assembly Committee

Assemblywoman Judy ChuSacramento, CA – Assembly Bill 1015, authored by Assembly Member Judy Chu (D – Monterey Park), passed out of the Assembly Public Safety Committee on a 4-0 vote. AB 1015 would establish the California Sex Offender Management Board (SOMB) which brings together major expert stakeholders in sex offender management to assess their practices system-wide and make recommendations.

“There are over 100,000 registered sex offenders living in California communities today. Upon release to the community, sex offenders are supervised for only a limited amount of time, yet California has no coordinated strategy to manage how these sex offenders are supervised,” said Assembly Member Judy Chu, “The State’s response to sex offenders thus far has been a mismatched patchwork of legislation, department decisions and directives from the Administration. We need a well-coordinated researched thoughtful approach.”
